Forrest Melton leads the OpenET consortium, which uses six satellite-driven models and publicly available data from NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The system provides daily, monthly, seasonal and annual data for water management; NASA says water managers and agricultural producers use it. [S1]
The recognition also reaches the work of keeping research programs running. Chanel Idos is a resource analyst for the Human Research Program at Ames. NASA credited her organization and communication with supporting its activities there and contributing to its fiscal 2024 cost performance. [S1]
The other honorees work on space science. Planetary scientist Ariel Deutsch was invited to join the Artemis II science team, and her selected grant aims to improve understanding of cold-trapped lunar volatiles, including at Artemis III candidate landing sites. Dan Sirbu was the primary operator for recent tests that NASA says set performance records in high-contrast imaging of planets around binary stars. [S1]
