The Flight Operations Directorate oversees astronaut training and the planning and management of mission operations for NASA's human spaceflight programs. Its responsibilities also include Johnson aircraft operations and aircrew training. Knight will continue as its director while taking on the acting deputy role, NASA said. [S1]
Knight began at Johnson as a Space Shuttle mechanical systems flight controller, working 40 missions in that capacity. NASA selected him as a flight director in 2000; he later became chief of the Flight Director Office in 2012 and director of flight operations in 2021. [S1]
